Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the causes of rust on the main deck, identify solutions to address the causes of rust, and determine maintenance methods for addressing rust on the main deck of the LCT Adinda Diza. The study resulted in a main deck maintenance plan to maintain its function as a cargo area. The descriptive qualitative method was used to provide a snapshot of the actual facts occurring in the field, supported by documentary evidence and interviews, allowing for solutions to the problem. The research location was the LCT Adinda Diza while the ship was anchored in the Fak Fak port area. The results concluded that the main deck is susceptible to rust because it is susceptible to oxidation and is not coated with an anode plate. Routine maintenance and inspections of the ship's main deck can minimize rust occurrence. Applying paint to protect the main deck from rust is not sufficient; rust removal using a grinder using a chipping method is necessary to ensure the paint adheres to the iron particles for a longer period of time and protects the iron from rust-causing oxygen.
